January 28, 2018 - NOVEL TIME

Writing my memoirs has been an enjoyable venture, but I am now launching into new territory—the novel. I wasn't sure I could write fiction, but I have found it to be an enchanting world. Trying to stay true to reality is no longer a harness. Worries of accidently misrepresenting or offending someone with my perception of events of the past are gone. I can invent the universe and the characters within it in any fashion I choose. Fiction truly is what dreams are made of.

January 11, 2018 - FICTIONALIZED?

I suppose all memoirs contain some fiction. After all, not many of us have photographic memories. My wife and I often disagree on events that happened yesterday, let alone forty years ago. Not only are memories faulty, everyone sees things from different perspectives. I call my writing "fictionalized memoirs" because they are my memories and may not jive with those of others who were there. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

January 3, 2018 - HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I celebrated the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018 with Jimmy Buffett and Margaritaville. No, I wasn't drinking marguerites. I was sitting in my comfortable leather recliner with my peppermint water and munching on a wall from the last of the gingerbread house.

Since midnight is a bit past my bedtime, and Jimmy was one hour ahead in Nashville, it seemed like a good idea to celebrate in Tennessee time and hit the sack early. That is about as much partying as I can handle at my age.

At any rate, I am looking forward to a much-improved year, although a lot of good things did happen in 2017. I publish two new books and three short stories, joined a great writer's group, sent my first grandchild off to college and spent some quality family time.

Let's all do our best to roll 2018 in a positive direction. I wish a peaceful and prosperous coming year for all!
